Business Overview

SPARK Art Studio understands that self expression and creative problem solving skills are essential to child development. Providing inspiring art materials, age appropriate projects, and small classes, SPARK guides children through the process of making their own choices and expressing their individuality through art making. SPARK Art Studio is a process-based art program. This means that children are given the freedom to create art their own way- you won't find twelve identical craft projects hanging up in the SPARK studio! For children, learning is in the process of art making rather than the end result. A FUN ENVIRONMENT At SPARK, kids have so much fun they have no idea that they are learning valuable creative problem solving skills that will carry over into whatever they choose to do in life. They don't know that they are in the process becoming critical thinkers or that they are learning to organize how they see the world. Kids are so immersed in the process of art making that they have no idea that they are learning at all. All they see is fun, and we like it that way... PROVIDING THE BASICS Each SPARK Art Studio course begins with the introduction of a specific art activity. Projects are often selected from a wide variety of geographic regions, cultures, and historical periods. Art elements and principles (such as color, line, pattern, space, repetition and value) are introduced and exciting art materials/techniques are demonstrated for the class. LETTING THE CHILD LEAD After the activity has been introduced, ample room is given for children to make choices about their artwork. SPARK trusts that the child is reinforcing his/her own developmental goals, even if they do not line up with the concept of the project. Whenever possible, children are provided with the opportunity to manipulate the materials in his/her own way. This helps children learn how to control and self regulate the materials over time, as well as exploring valuable concepts such as color mixing. Every effort will be made to let this exploration happen naturally, even if it means not having a �take home project' that is visually appealing to parents. This process of exploring materials and the freedom to make choices concerning their artwork is empowering to children and will foster their cognitive, motor, and creative thinking skills. ABOUT OUR FACULTY SPARK classes are lead by nurturing and knowledgeable artists.
