Business Overview

Preparing students to be successful in their futures begins immediately at The Midland Academy of Advanced and Creative Studies. As early as Kindergarten, students learn the importance of maturity, well-mannered behavior, and proper etiquette in the classroom and professional settings. Students at The Midland Academy have displayed their ability for meeting challenges, and the Lower School curriculum is geared toward producing well-rounded students, who are ready to embrace college preparation, and activities of civic engagement. Academic excellence is stressed in the classroom through teaching methods that inspire students to want to learn. Involvement in academic activities are expected, including the annual Science Fair, which has grade specific requirements, field trips, in which parent chaperones are encouraged, and Summer reading, or research projects, which may be assigned to ensure academic continuity. All of these activities are explained in more detail in the Lower School Handbook. Cultural literacy of world religions, ethics, aesthetics, governments, and business, is also stressed in order to foster open-minded and properly educated individuals. By teaching ethical behavior, The Midland Academy is enforcing personal integrity, and leadership qualities in each student. In keeping with The Midland Academy's goals for producing well-rounded students, activities beyond the classroom are also emphasized. A points program is set up for all grade levels, to ensure that students are participating in at least one school-sponsored athletic activity, one skill-oriented activity, and one community-oriented activity per year. The points program is broken down into three categories - Blue, Gold, and White Points. In Lower School, 1 Blue Point must be earned by partaking in 1 sport for the year; 1 Gold Point must be earned by participating in one extra-curricular or leadership activity for the year; and 1 White Point must be earned by completing community service throughout the year. The BGW Point program is in place to encourage healthy living, and community involvement, in order to produce well-rounded, compassionate, and respectful individuals, who are ready to embrace a changing future.
