Intro to Quilting/Quilt Along: Log Cabin & Snail Trail Quilts

MIY Studios

<div>Join Chrissy Anderson in this 8 week Quilting Course and make a beautiful Log Cabin or Snail Trail Quilt. No previous quilting experience is necessary, however, strong sewing skills are a must.&nbsp; Please read this listing thoroughly for all details needed.<br></div><div><br></div><div><b>Option One: The Log Cabin.</b>&nbsp;</div><div>This classic pattern is perfect for the novice quilter and beyond. The Log Cabin will help you improve your cutting and seam allowance. We will work through all of the steps including how to prep it for quilting. The Log Cabin is great for all skills levels. You will need to purchase “Quilt in a Day Log Cabin” by Eleanor Burns. <u>Please note, the first two Mondays will start at 6pm&nbsp;</u></div><div><br></div><div><b>Option Two: The Snail Trail.</b>&nbsp;</div><div>This is great for intermediates/advanced quilters who are ready to step out of their comfort zone. Accurate cutting and seam allowances are very important and most of the sewing is done on the bias. We will be using the Snail Trail quilt pattern from Janet Wickell and a copy will be provided.&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>The first class is all cutting, then the following Mondays we will be piecing blocks to make blocks. Each class will begin with instruction/ demonstrations and then you will work on piecing the blocks. Although the course is designed so that the quilt top will be done in 8 sessions, this greatly depends on the quilter. If the quilt top doesn’t make it to the finish line, quilters are welcome to attend open studio and receive guidance to complete it.&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div><b>Quilters bring their own fabric.</b>&nbsp;</div><div>There are 3 options for this quilting series: <br></div><div><i><b><br></b></i></div><div><i><b>1. Novice Log Cabin</b></i> - You are a new quilter or someone who still needs guidance with cutting, seam allowance, pressing or binding a quilt. We will work step by step on the quilt from cutting, sewing, pressing, squaring up blocks to make the finished top quilt and prepping the layers for quilting and lastly closing it with the binding. We will also discuss bias, grain, how to use tools, seam allowance, the importance of pressing, etc.&nbsp;</div><div><i><b>&nbsp;</b></i></div><div><i><b>2. Intermediate Snail Trail or Log Cabin</b></i> - You have made a quilt and are confident working independently, but need guidance on new quilt patterns. At the start of each class there will be instructions and demonstrations for specific steps/blocks we are working on. After that you are free to sew at your own pace.&nbsp;</div><div><i><b><br></b></i></div><div><i><b>3. Advanced Snail Trail or Log Cabin </b></i>- You have completed several quilts on your own outside of MIY. You are confident working independently, but need occasional guidance. Advanced quilters are ready to jump right in with cutting and sewing.&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div><b>Course Dates/Times:</b><br></div><div>Runs 8 Consecutive Mondays <br></div><div>4/15-6/10 (NO CLASS MEMORIAL DAY)</div><div>All classes run 6:30-8:30pm with the exception of 4/15 &amp; 4/22 for those completing the Log Cabin.&nbsp; Those two classes will start at 6pm.<br></div><div><br></div><div>If at the close of the 8 weeks, you haven’t completed your quilt, please join us for Open Studio to finish it up.&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div><b>Tools, Materials, Supplies:</b> You may bring your own machine or use one of ours.
